About trip
A 2.5 mile walk from the Plough Inn at Brackenfield. The walk takes you to the hamlet of Mathersgrave where you will find a guide stoop set into a wall. Adjacent to the stoop, there is a stone reputedly marking the burial place of Samuel Mather, a local sheep stealer who was said to have committed suicide over the birth of an illegitimate daughter (http://www.brackenfield.net). You will also pass by the ruins of a 16th century chapel and take in the fine views from Highoredish. A trig point is located on Open Access land just off the footpath. The Plough Inn is a wonderful country pub, be sure to drop in for a drink, chat or excellent food - they are always happy to chat in a relaxing atmosphere with superb food & drink. http://www.ploughinnbrackenfield.co.uk
