Fan Fawr is often seen as a supporting act for Pen y Fan and Corn Du, even though it sits on the other side of the valley. It’s a case of ‘always the bridesmaid, never the bride’ for this 734m giant. Still, it has plenty to offer, especially if you want to escape weekend crowds. Craig Cerrig-gleisiad makes a great starting point for a walk on Fforest Fawr. The craggy nature reserve, home to over 500 plant species and 80-odd different birds, breaks all the rules with perilously steep crags in an area better known for its rounded hilltops.
