About trip

The Calder and Hebble Canal runs for 21 miles between Sowerby Bridge and Wakefield and was an important navigable waterway in the days of the mills that filled this area. All is peaceful now and a great towpath allows walkers the unique experience of being able to saunter along in rural peace while being surrounded by built up areas. This route follows the canal to Sowerby Bridge before returning via the River Calder and easy hill paths.
