Mountain charts and tables can sometimes be lef twanting.Take for example Waun Rydd in the central range of the Brecon Beacons. Its 769m (2,532ft) summit, a barely discernible point atop an area of featureless grassland, would be almost impossibleto find in even the faintest veil of cloud.Yet, despite this far from appetising description, it is surrounded by some of the steepest and most spectacular escarpments in the whole National Park; and this walk,which traces an airy line along them, is as thrilling as any you’re likely to find in the area. If parallels needed drawing, Waun Rydd could be described as a kind of Welsh Kinder Edge; however, it doesn’t boast the same quantity of peat bog, and it certainly doesn’t see as many visitors...
