Clywedog Dam East - Mid Wales

The walk starts from the car park close to the foot of the dam and passes through the old Bryntail lead mine workings, the ruins of which are in the care of Cadw. There are great views of the dam from here. We walked this route clockwise.

The route follows the Glyndwr Way for a couple of miles and there are great views from the northern section in particular.

For about half a mile you walk on a B road which can get quite busy (take care!) before re-joining a more rural and peaceful section of the Glyndwr Way. The path we took through Cribynau woods was a surprisingly steep descent; I wouldn’t want to do this in wet weather or if it was wet underfoot. There is an alternative, parallel track just to the east that looks easier (at least on paper!)

The very last mile is also on minor roads (one gated) but there is no traffic to speak of and there are fabulous views over the valleys and across to the dam.
