This varied walk over easy paths has several points of considerable interest. Anglers Country Park is usually populated by a good variety of birds, so take binoculars if you want to stop at the hides. The visitor centre (not open Mondays) has information and a café. Haw Park Wood is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Local Nature Reserve. The section of the Barnsley Canal, though disused, still has water in it, and is very attractive as it runs through a steep-sided wooded cutting. A disused railway provides a pleasant route back to Ryhill. By Derek Spiers. **Please note the Hammer & Anvil pub and the Sportsman Inn, both mentioned in the directions, are now closed. The Hammer & Anvil has been boarded up while the Sportsman Inn has been demolished.
