About trip

The what3words address takes you to Chesterfield Railway Station car park where it costs £5.50 (summer 2021) to park for the day if you park after 10.00 am. This is where  the walk begins and so using the train rather than a car might be a better option if you’re not actually staying in Chesterfield.

Leave the station by turning right and follow Crow Lane which crosses beneath the tracks. A short distance  along the lane turn left along a track; this is the Trans Pennine Trail and the walk follows this for a little while. At the golf course you pass into a car park for the driving range (which is ahead of you). The OS maps show the right of way leading straight on, but there’s the driving range in your way! A footpath sign at the back of the car park shows the Trans Pennine Way to your right; follow this path.

This is an undemanding but very rewarding walk and a surprise to us given that it was so close to Chesterfield. Woodland, open views and the canal itself make for a varied and enjoyable couple of hours.
