About trip
No collection of routes in the Peak District would be complete without a tour of the desolate moors to be found at the northernmost tip of the region. Away from the tourist crowds these tracks feel remote and isolated. Heading out from the popular Fairholmes car park and Ladybower reservoir this route immediately has you climbing all the way over the Snake Pass and down the excellent, but quite technical, Doctor's Gate track. After some easier riding around Woodhead reservoirs it's back over the tops again to return back to the tip of the upper Derwent reservoir for an easy run back to the finish. There are no easy options to cut this route short so once started, short of turning back, you are committed to the entire ride. The sheer length of this route makes it an ordeal even in summer, a winter attempt is for experienced bikers only who should make maximum use of the available daylight.
