About trip
Castle and cliffs, Conical Grand Castle driveway, then via cress beds and arboretum through beechwood to graveyard. Mostly plantations to jousting meads where ancient oaks line river and lead to swimming spot. Riverside walk on high cliffs along difficult to find paths, many rough, to spectacular viewpoints. Vehicle tracks through plantations lead to hidden Conical village, then pathways through fields to stepping stones across small burn to grassy track. Turn off to Whitmire overgrown down to tiny burn, step across and bear left then up to houses at Whitmire. More very tall trees until you reappear on the driveway again. Second half of the walk not as exciting as first part.
