Reeth/Apedale Circuit. Distance 11.8 miles Ascent : 1850 metres Difficulty: Moderate/Hard Terrain: Mostly good bridleways (well drained) Toilets: Start/Finish public loos in Reeth or pub Refuel: Start/Finish pubs & Cafes Descripton Cross the River Swale at the ‘Swing Bridge’ ½ miles SW of Reeth. Follow the river for 1.4 miles before climbing slightly and joining the road at 1.76miles. Left on road for ¼ mile. Turn right at Bridleway sign right head up before joining the main bridleway and this is the main climb (810ft). Keep going up. At a junction close to the top turn right (west) towards shooters hut at 3 miles. Keep going west. Until you hit another bridleway running NW/SE at 4.8 miles turn left (up), climb towards Apedale Head. Cross fenceline/gate at 5.5 miles. Continue down Apedale to Dents Houses at 7.8 miles. Turn left up to ‘Height of Greets’ (8.7 miles). Go north east off the summit, heading toward the road. After 300 metres on the road turn left onto another bridleway. Follow a line of Grouse Butts and head down FP to Grinton. Turn left after Grinton Bridge and cross the fields back to Reeth.
