About trip
A lovely walk starting at the Visitor Center at Alton Water. Ample parking with refreshments and toilets at the start/finish point. This walk crosses the dam wall before following a path through a wooded area and on through a marshland meadow. It follows a roadside path for a short distance before crossing a wooden walkway over the corner of a large pond, (watch out for dragonflies in the pond). After crossing the road at its corner, the path passes between some dwellings before following a winding stream through a woodland glade and farm fields where it arrives at Holbrook Creek. It then passes along the banks of the river Stour before going through the garden of Markwells Farm and coming out at the lovely old church at Sutton Green. Look out for the Royal Hospital School at Holbrook. This walk passes the rear of this wonderful old Naval establishment offering a unique and rewarding view of it across its playing fields.
