About trip

There’s a car park at ‘The Walled Garden’ which is free and there is a limited amount  of roadside parking beside the garden itself, which is where we parked. The  what3words address address should get you the roadside parking and within sight of the car park turning. The garden is free (suggested donation £3) and there is a good cafe here as well as a toilet.

This was a pleasant, short walk close to Cloud’s Hill, the home of TE Lawrence. The first and last sections of the walk are the most interesting – the middle part is through the forestry commission plantation, although sections of the forest  have been felled and left to return to the heathland that it once was. It’s an easy route to follow with obvious paths and signage when needed. We chose to stick to the main forestry track in the woodland itself but there are plenty of options to take other turnings

We walked this clockwise and popped into the church (St  Nicholas’s) at the end. The church is interesting. Lawrence’s  funeral was held here (he’s buried in the cemetery over the road) and there are interesting engraved windows by Sir Lawrence Whistler.
