About trip
Great 7 hour Hike over highest Exmoor Peak and along Rivers and sea view ridge Getting there- from Taunton it's a bus. But on the way back I got the Minehead Steam train (last one is at 5.45) which goes to Bishops Lydeard through the Quantocks and from there its a bus to MInehead. I set off at 6 from home and got home at midnight. Tired. The walk This route consists of 3 big hills. The first is a nice gentle wooded walk which dips into a very sweet valley under Dunkery Hill. Had not seen anyone at this point. Then Dunkery Hill which attracts some more people- a long steady and fairly easy walk to its top. Good place to have a picnic. Awesome views in all directions- apparently you can see Sugar Loaf Mountain in the Brecon Beacons on a really clear day, from here. Then a really nice stroll down- across East River Ford (over stones with care!)- more of a stream really where I filled my depleted water. Packhorse Bridge is a lovely spot and there's a little farmhouse to grab an icecream or scone- which I needed for the next section. I love walking along rivers and there's quite a bit of that here. The last hill up to Selworthy Beacon is really steep- but covered in trees which offered a little mercy. By this point, I was pooped so this was hard work. Then a nice long walk along a ridge overlooking the Bristol Estuary on one side and the hills on the other. Before descending down into Minehead.
