Start to CP1 From Harringworth Lodge, leave the lodge turning immediately right onto a signed bridleway. At 0.1 miles the bridleway turns into a grass path bearing left. At 0.5 miles cross a small lane and continue forward on signed bridleway (G/R 939 949). At 2.0 miles reach a small lane (G/R 956 944) and turn left over the A43. At 2.2 miles meet a T-junction and turn right towards Deene. At 2.6 miles Turn left signed Kings Cliffe (G/R 964 942). At 6.4 miles (G/R 001 972) turn right into West Street. At 6.8 miles reach The Cross Keys pub which is CP1 (G/R 007 971). Navigation Difficulty Rating: Low, mostly signed. Course type: Relatively flat, mostly tarmac with some fields. CP Distance = 6.8 miles CP1 to CP2 Leave CP1 turning down West Street then first left into Park Street. At 0.6 miles turn right signed Wansford At 4.2 miles meet T-junction and turn right on Old Leicester Road. At 4.8 miles just before the A1, turn right on signed Nene Way route (G/R 075 994). At 5.3 miles turn right signed Nene Way towards a mast (G/R 080 996). At 5.4 miles cross a stile signed Nene Way (G/R 082 996). At 6.5 miles meet a small lane (G/R 094 987) by a church and turn left then right immediately after church which is signed the Nene Way (Lovers Lane). At 6.7 miles turn right over a stile signed Nene Way and follow route towards Wansford Station. At 7.2 miles meet a boardwalk to a bridge by Wansford Station. Go along boardwalk then turn right up steps to the station at 7.3 miles which is CP2 (G/R 093 979). Navigation Difficulty Rating: Low, mostly signed. Course type: Relatively flat, Tarmac and fields. CP Distance = 7.3 miles Total Race Day Distance = 14.1 miles CP2 to CP3 From the station go back down the steps and continue forward over a stile. At 2.5 miles cross a wooden pedestrian bridge over a small brook (G/R 124 972). At 2.9 miles meet a small tarmac lane (G/R 128 969) and turn right past The Old Mill then through a gate signed Nene Way. At 3.2 miles do not cross the bridge over the river, stay on the route. At 3.8 miles go over a stile by the river (G/R 138 969) and turn left along the towpath. At 4.1 miles reach a railway line (G/R 137 972) and go underneath to stay on the Nene Way. At 5.1 miles reach a bridge over the river (G/R 143 985), keep on signed path by the river. At 7.1 miles (G/R 165 972) reach locks at Orton and continue forward under road bridge. At 7.8 miles (G/R 174 980) go over a pedestrian bridge over an inlet to the Nene. At 9.1 miles (G/R 192 981) cross over the road bridge and head for “Charters” a large cafe bar boat on the river on the other side. At 9.2 miles go down the steps towards the boat which is the location of CP3 (G/R 192 981). Navigation Difficulty Rating: Low, mostly signed. Course type: Relatively flat, Tarmac and fields. CP Distance = 9.2 miles Total Race Day Distance = 23.3 miles CP3 to CP4 From CP3 go back over the bridge and turn right to pick up the Nene Way again. At 0.4 miles go under a road bridge and continue along a long straight tarmac path with the river on your right. At 2.8 miles bear right over Millennium bridge (G/R 234 984) and onto gravel track, over Ball bridge and continue on path heading East. At 4.5 miles meet lane by Whittlesey Football club (G/R 255 977) and turn left. At 4.7 miles go forward into Stonald Road. At 5.4 miles go over crossroads and into Bassenhally Road (G/R 269 975). At 5.5 miles look out for a small walkway on your right called Arnolds Lane. This is by some railings on the pavement and is easily missed! (G/R 271 975). At the end of this lane with The Elms nursing home on your left, continue forward into High Causeway and past The New Crown pub. At 6.0 miles cross over road and continue forward past shops, crossing another road shortly and continuing past the George Hotel on your right. At 6.3 miles pass Manor Leisure Centre on your right. At 6.7 miles cross the railway lines (G/R 275 962). At 7.1 miles bear right off Station Road into Turningtree Road by (CEL roofing) signed towards Ramsey (G/R 280 958). At 7.3 miles just before a road bridge, turn left signed Hereward Way (G/R 282 956). At 8.9 miles meet a road and continue forward signed Hereward Way. At 9.0 miles cross road bridge over a dyke. At 9.2 miles bear left just before bridge signed towards Turves, and then turn left on signed “Whittley Walk” route to meet a dyke then turn right along it towards Turves. At 10.4 miles go under the railway line (G/R 323 967) to T-junction then turn right signed Hereward Way. At 11.2 miles (G/R 334 975) turn right signed The Turves. At 11.6 miles reach The Three Horseshoes which is CP4 (G/R 334 969). Navigation Difficulty Rating: Low, mostly signed. Course type: Relatively flat, mostly tarmac with some fields. CP Distance = 11.6 miles Total Race Day Distance = 34.9 miles CP4 to CP5 From the Three Horseshoes continue along the road signed to Burnt House. At 0.6 miles (G/R 334 960) turn left into Quakers Drove. At 1.2 miles as tarmac lane ends, continue forward signed Hereward Way. At 3.0 miles meet the river and turn left (G/R 372 955). At 3.8 miles continue through two gates through two gardens and continue forward on route. At 4.6 miles (G/R 391 966) turn left in front of warehouse to meet road where you turn right signed Hereward Way. At 5.1 miles (just slightly after Middle Road on the opposite side of the road), rejoin the signed Hereward Way route. At 5.2 miles turn left by the river to rejoin the river path. At 5.8 miles go under the A141 road bridge and continue on route along West End. At 6.8 miles meet the T-junction of Broad Street (left) and High Street (right). Turn right then left before the bridge into Nene Parade. At 7.0 miles reach CP5 on your left which is paved area near to Sainsbury’s (G/R 418 967). Navigation Difficulty Rating: Low, mostly signed. CP Distance = 7.0 miles Total Race Days Distance = 41.9 miles CP5 to Finish From CP5 continue along Nene Parade for approx 0.3 miles then turn right crossing the river on a green bridge opposite junction of Wigstones Road and Nene Parade (G/R 421 970) then turn left signed Hereward Way staying on this now for some 3.4 miles. At 3.7 miles (G/R 464 999) turn right signed Hereward Way. At 4.9 miles (G/R 470 984) bear right on signed route. At 5.3 miles by Well Fen Farm (G/R 470 980) turn left signed footpath. At 6.2 miles go over Christchurch Farm Bridge to meet the B1098 (G/R 485 976) and continue forward on Hereward Way. At 6.8 miles meet road and continue forward through a housing estate. At 7.1 miles pass The Dun Cow pub on your left (G/R 494 965) and continue forward. At 7.9 miles turn right to follow the route (G/R 501 956). At 9.2 miles meet a road (G/R 497 951) and turn left signed Hereward Way. At 9.5 miles follow the March Road to Welney. At 11.8 miles meet the A1101 and turn right to Welney. At 12.0 miles reach The Lamb and Flag pub which is the finish and campsite for the end of this leg (G/R 527 937). Navigation Difficulty Rating: Low, mostly signed.
