About trip

This pleasant walk follows the river from Dolgellau into Barmouth and used to be an old railway line so it’s very level and almost impossible to go wrong. The GPX file is pretty much redundant. There’s parking in Dolgellau. The what3words address takes you to the car park beside the river in Dolgellau. The first car park is limited to 3 hours parking, but if you carry on along the access road rather than turn into the first car park there is another, longer stay car park.
Although this is a linear walk there are a couple of bus services that get you back to Dolgellau and there’s a bus about every hour. Traveline Cymru have a handy app for timetables.
The second part of the walk has lovely views across the estuary and there’s a pub on the path about 2.5 miles from Dolgellau at Penmaenpool if you need refreshment (George III). There are also public toilets here. The trail works best, I think, as a cycle route but if you fancy a level walk with estuary views this is the one for you and walking beside the current railway line over the viaduct towards Barmouth as it crosses the estuary mouth supplies unbeatable views.
