About trip
Shetland is a feast for the eyes with its stunningly dramatic, wild and raw scenery.
In the Year of Natural Scotland 2013, why not take a walk on the wilder side in the western
Shetland district of Esha ness? The start point of this wonderfully atmospheric walk is at a lighthouse, just south of the car park. The building perches on the top of volcanic black cliffs, weathered by the stormy sea. Heading north along the coast, walkers are also delighted by other natural highlights, such as the deep inlet of rock called Calder's Geo
and the giant storm beach of Grind 0 da Navir (or Grind of the Navir). On the return leg, look out for the evocatively named Holes of Scraada, which form an underground passage that leads to a collapsed sea cave, before passing the two stunning lochs of Drid Geo.
