About trip
Running almost the full length of this delightful holiday isle, and shaped into two circles, the West lsland Way offers great walking whatever your fitness levels, especially as the island is fairly flat. This is Scotland's first long-distance island footpath and offers 25 miles of signposted paths. The route starts at Kilchattan Bay,
to the south, and finishes at Port Bannatyne in the north, with the main town of Rothesay at the mid-way point. This is a wonderful walk whatever the season. it takes in varied landscape including forest, moorland, the highs of Windy Hill and Kames Hill. The coastline meanwhile, offers stunning views of the Isle of Arran and the Cowal Peninsula. Look out for caves, lighthouses, a Bronze Age cairn and Loch-na-Leigh (also known as the healing pool or surgeons pool).
