Time: 2 Hours Terrain: Easy Description: Staithes likes to claim Captain Cook as its own, but he was not born in Staithes and neither did he study seamanship here. He was apprenticed to a local draper and the germ of his ambition to become a navigator probably came to the young James Cook as he watched the fishing cobles sail in and out of the harbour which was then open to the ravages of the North Sea.
