About trip

It can be hard to wrap your head around, but Hadrian's Wall has been here since AD122, which makes it a remarkable 1,891 years old. Stretching from Bowness-on-Solway in the west to the river Tyne in the east, it also covers some glorious northern landscapes. This scenic route on even but undulating terrain avoids busy walking trails and takes in the big-sky country of Northumberland. The run steers clear of sensitive archaeology but still visits the amazing mile castles, forts, lakes and crags that define this world heritage site. See Trail Running's feature on the area in Issue 13, Apr/May. Start/Finish: Housesteads visitor car park: NY794684 Distance: 10.8km Ascent: 242m Difficulty: Moderate Estimated time: 90 minutes Terrain: Mixture of level and undulating trail footpaths. Refuel: Twice Brewed Inn, Henshaw, near Bardon Mill Toilets: Housesteads visitor car park From Trail Running magazine, to subscribe visit www.GreatMagazines.co.uk/tr © Copyright Bauer Media Limited 2011.
