About trip

Linear walk from Maybole railway station to the coastal village of Dunure. Walk crosses the railway bridge and then continues up the paved hill until crossing the road bypass at the edge of town. From there it continues to go straight, following signposts for Dunure along farm tracks, until branching off to the right into a field. The path then ascends a ridge towards a cairn bearing the legend “Carrick Way 2008”, which is an excellent sandwich spot. From here the path returns to the original route direction, picking up a rough track rising through some fairly overgrown gorse and bushes, and continuing over stepping stones traversing some occasionally boggy ground before entering forest. The forest continues for several miles before reaching the ridge above Dunure, which provides magnificent views over the firth of Clyde. The path then descends over several miles through the village of Fisherton down to Dunure, which has a lovely harbour and very welcome pub.
