About trip

A great, varied walk taking in some of the most lovely weald and downland countryside in the area, and a lovely pub at Sutton (http://www.whitehorse-sutton.co.uk).

The route shown starts at the large car park on top of the hill, by White Ways cafe, but you can also park by the George and Dragon in Houghton (http://www.thegeorgeanddragonhoughton.co.uk) and follow the South Downs Way up the hill to join the route, if you do this, parking can be a bit of a pain, but the pub is a beauty.

There is an obvious choice along the walk where the route crosses itself - I really like the walk over Bignor Hill, with its stunning views to the East, so I normally head down the hill towards the Pub at Sutton first, then come back over Bignor Hill later (this also means the steepest slope on the route is downhill!), but choices can be made. The White Horse pub does good food, so consider it for an excellent lunch option. As always with country pubs, check the opening hours to avoid disappointment!
