About trip

The Rob Roy Way along Loch Tay can be difficult to complete as a day walk due to the scarcity of public transport and accommodation.

For this walk we stayed in Killin and used a taxi to get to Ardeonaig, before walking the route back.

The route rises steadily from the lochside into the hills above, passing through farmland before reaching the moor. From there it continues upwards towards rocky hills at the summit of the walk, passing Lochans and reservior installations, before gradually descending through forest towards Killin.

As you gain height Loch Tay and the surrounding mountains open up and provide wonderful views. The paths are mostly well formed and signposted, although the moorland stretches could be very muddy in wet weather. Warm clothing is essential, as even on a sunny day, the wind was biting.
