About trip

  • The what3words address takes you to the small harbour where there is some limited parking.

Abercastle is particularly popular with divers, which can lead to congestion if too many cars and trailers are trying to get to the beach. The harbour is very picturesque. Carreg Sampson, an impressive Neolithic burial chamber, lies west of the beach and a short distance inland if that interests you. This walk covers the coast east of the village.

We walked this anti-clockwise taking the route inland and east on the lanes, farm tracks and footpaths before reaching the coast at Aber Mawr a lovely, quiet beach with sand and a pebble bank. A good spot for lunch. The inland part was pleasant, not especially interesting, but the return section along the coast path is lovely and we were lucky to have superb walking weather. There were a couple of steep climbs but nothing too arduous.

This was a very pleasant walk with some spectacular views; highly recommended!
