Description: An easy walk that starts at the Nelson Pit Visitor Centre, goes through Lyme Park, passing The Cage and returning via the Macclesfield Canal.

Start: Nelson Pit Visitor Centre, 18 Lyme Rd, Poynton, Stockport SK12 1TH.           Approx. 17mls, from Congleton, taking 40mins.

Suggested Route to Start: From Astbury Mere turn north onto Newcastle Rd. (A34)

Continue on the A34 then follow the signs to Macclesfield (A536).

Take the B5088 Oxford Rd. at the Flower Pot junction in Macclesfield.

Continue on the A537, following the signs for Stockport (A6).

Turn left onto the Silk Road A523 at the Tesco roundabout, towards Stockport.

Turn right at the sign for Poynton B5092 onto London Rd.

In the centre of Poynton, turn right at the multi-roundabout onto Park Lane.

Fork left onto Middlewood Rd. (signed Anson Engine Museum & Household Waste Site).

At the fork of Middlewood Rd. & Anson Rd. turn right onto Anson Rd., brown-signposted Nelson Pit.

Continue on Anson Rd. to the Boars Head junction and go straight across onto Lyme Rd.

Nelson Pit Car Park is 100yds on the left.
