We started this walk in Hinton-st-George. The parking address takes you to the High Street but it gets busy and so please park thoughtfully; the village pub, the Poullet Arms, is well-renowned for its food and draws a lot of people. The village itself is interesting and worth a stroll. There’s also a well regarded, community owned, village shop in the High Street.
The walk takes you onto a section of the Fosse Way, an old Roman road. A previously unknown Roman villa was excavated here by the ‘Time Team’ a few years ago.
The section of the Fosse Way passes over a tight double bend in the B road just south of the Lopen Head roundabout. Exert extreme caution here – the sight lines are very poor, traffic can’t see you until it’s almost upon you and there is no pavement; it’s only a few yards but it’s dangerous.
