The walk starts from the car park just off the A846 where it meets the access road to Islay House. If you have time, there are a few retail units at Islay House that are worth visiting, including a microbrewery.
We walked this clockwise. Easy paths to begin with and you pass the Islay Woollen Mill, which is also well worth a visit; the shop has merchandise made from the cloth that the mill weaves.
The loop back was interesting. The section labelled as ‘Claggan Strip’ on the OS map was definitely ‘claggy.’ It would have been better to have worn wellingtons rather than hiking boots. The woods were interesting and very beautiful when we walked the route; walking through trees made a good contrast to most of the walks on Islay.
